Sources of Vitamins: Does Your Diet Measure Up?
Most of us know about the important role that vitamins play in keeping our bodies running effectively. But have you ever taken the time to discover what your body actually needs, and how to accommodate those requirements into your diet, using natural sources of vitamins to prevent you from having to take supplements?
A quick word on natural versus synthetic vitamins: During a clinical trial, two subjects with similar tumors were “enrolled on vitamin A treatment”. The tumor treated with natural beta carotene disappeared, and the one treated with synthetic vitamin A showed no reaction.
The sheer pace and lifestyle of present day life has made it extremely difficult to eat a “natural” diet. Long working hours, time wasted commuting, and husband and wife both working to make ends meet, has resulted in a tendency towards easy, fast food. While these are convenient, and fits the busy schedule (and pace), the nutritional value leave a lot to be desired. Pies and French fries are not wonderful sources of vitamins
To top it all, intensive farming techniques have gradually drained the soil of its ability to provide nutrients to the very plants from which your vegetables are harvested. Over the past fifty years the nutritional content of many foods have repeatedly been analyzed, and found to be steadily declining. The very natural sources of vitamins which health experts are advocating, are becoming insufficient.
The best current solution to this situation is to use organic products. It costs more, but you cannot attach a price tag to your health. A few dollars saved today, could result in severe problems due to vitamin deficiencies further down the line, at a time when it cannot be remedied any more, and your quality of life is greatly reduced. It can be scary to try and calculate the (medical) costs incurred by trying to save a dollar today…..
Eventually, it seems, we will all be forced to take vitamin supplements. Many years ago, someone predicted that we would some day eat one single biscuit as a meal. it will contain all the vitamins, minerals and energy your body needs, and the rest would be fiber, to swell up and create the illusion of being “full”. Let’s hope that if we ever get there, the sources of vitamins will at least be organic, or herbal vitamins.
