Your immune system is your body’s most important weapon in fighting off infections and disease.  Many people pay the immune system no thought whatsoever.  If they think about it at all, they have some sort of vague idea that AIDS and HIV have something to do with a weak immune system, but they really have no idea what the term means or what the immune system consists of or does.  But I’m assuming you’re better informed than that, and you know how important your immune system is, and want to protect it.  So let’s talk about protecting it with immune system vitamins.

Of course, it goes without saying that you should practice healthy eating habits as the first step in proper nutritional support for your immune system.  No amount of supplementation can undo the harm that’s done by a poor diet.   Immune system vitamins aren’t a substitute for good nutrition; they’re an enhancement to it.  Keeping this all important mechanism in tip top shape should be on of your top priorities, and every step you take in that direction helps.

What are the best immune system vitamins?  Well, most experts put Vitamin C right at the top of the list.  It’s essential for keeping your IS in good working order to fight off diseases and infections.  Many researchers believe that Vitamin C has many other benefits, too. In fact, Linus Pauling, the Nobel Prize winner, thought Vitamin C was one of the main factors in preventing cancer.

Vitamin E is the next on the list of important immune system vitamins.  It, too, has a great many other health benefits for the body in addition to its immune system enhancing properties.  It’s widely reported to be a big booster of cardiovascular health, as well as being necessary for healthy looking skin and hair.

These are the two big Kahunas of immune system vitamins.  The various B vitamins also play a role here, so don’t neglect them.  In addition, there are other substances that are recommended, but which aren’t striclty vitamins.  Zinc, for one, is a powerful immune booster.  So are bioflavenoids and beta carotene, as well as selenium.  And last but not least is garlic, which has been prized for it’s health boosting reputation for thousands of years.

Immune system vitamins and supplements are vitally important to your good health.  Don’t neglect them!
